Nigerian Government reacted swiftly to the death of 26 teenage Nigerian migrants found dead and floating in the Mediterranean early in November 2017.
This they have done by setting up a committee, Led by Mr Abubakar Malami, who is the minister of justice.
The bodies of the victims were found floating in the water by a Spanish military ship and brought to Italy on November 3 after two separate rescue operations, Initially it was thought that the girls where sexually molested, but autopsy revealed that they where drown,
The Government of Nigeria reacted, following accusations in the media that they are doing nothing about the issues,
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that committee which is being chaired by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Abubakar Malami, has the ministers of Women Affairs, Youths, Foreign Affairs and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora.
According to the official, the committee is expected to also examine the reports of incidents of the sale of Nigerian citizens through slavery and report to the Federal Executive Council within week.
The girls are all believed to be below 20 years, and only two of whom has been identified, Federico Soda, director UN migration agency for the Mediterranean.(NAN) said “It is very likely that these girls were victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation”
